Territory & Surroundings of Castello di Septe
Between the sea and the hills, Castello di Septe is the ideal starting point for discovering the most authentic side of Abruzzo: panoramic villages, millennial abbeys, Mediterranean nature, and one of Italy's most scenic seaside cycle paths. Within less than 30 km, you can alternate relaxing days on the Costa dei Trabocchi with cultural itineraries in the Frentano hinterland.
Costa dei Trabocchi
A unique stretch of coastline, famous for its trabocchi (ancient fishing machines on stilts) and for its coves, cliffs, and sunsets over the Adriatic Sea. The main villages and coastal towns in the area include Ortona, San Vito Chietino, Rocca San Giovanni, Fossacesia, and Torino di Sangro.
Not to be missed
- San Vito Chietino (approx. 17 km): views, panoramic lookouts, and access points to the coast.
- Rocca San Giovanni (approx. 11 km): one of the most beloved villages for its narrow alleys and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the coast.
- Fossacesia (approx. 9 km): beaches and seafront promenades, perfect for a "sea & sunset" day.
- Gemini ha detto Torino di Sangro (approx. 13 km): for those who love wider beaches and nature.
Via Verde dei Trabocchi (Seaside Cycling and Pedestrian Path)
Gemini ha detto The Via Verde della Costa dei Trabocchi is a cycling and pedestrian path that highlights the coastline in "slow" mode: ideal on foot, by bike, or e-bike, with stops among the trabocchi, beaches, and photo spots.
Practical tip: In the early morning, the light is perfect for photos and cooler rides; in the late afternoon, it is spectacular for the sunset over the sea.
Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere (Fossacesia)
An iconic and panoramic site: the abbey stands on a promontory overlooking a vast stretch of the Costa dei Trabocchi, offering a memorable view between the countryside and the sea.
Villages and cities of art within 30 km
Lanciano (approx. 10 km)
A city rich in history and atmosphere: perfect for a stroll through the historic center, shops, and gourmet stops. It is the ideal choice for a "culture & shopping" afternoon just a stone's throw from the Castle.
Guardiagrele (approx. 31 km)
One of the symbolic villages of the Chieti hinterland: panoramas, craftsmanship, and local flavors. Also excellent as a stop on an itinerary through hills and small towns.
Ortona (approx. 27 km)
Gemini ha detto
Port, sea, and history: a convenient destination for those looking to alternate between beaches and cultural visits along the coast.
